ARAPAHOE COUNTY TRAFFIC VIOLATION DEFENSE ATTORNEY
Many people mistakenly think that a traffic violation charge isn't worth fighting. But a conviction for a traffic violation in Colorado can have long-term consequences, including increased insurance rates, points on your driving record, significant fines, and depending on the charge, even jail time. Most Colorado residents don't keep track of the points on their driving record, and find out when it's too late that their license will be suspended as a result of a traffic violation conviction.
Serving clients throughout Arapahoe County, CO, including Aurora, Littleton, Englewood, Southglenn, Greenwood Village, Centennial, Castlewood, and more, traffic violation defense layer Michael T. Kossen, P.C., can help, even if you have accumulated too many points and are facing a driver's license suspension. We offer free initial consultations and flexible appointment scheduling options, so you have nothing to lose by consulting with an experienced Arapaho County defense attorney about your situation.
The Colorado traffic points system
In the State of Colorado, you will have points added to your driving record any time you are convicted of a moving violation. For drivers over the age of 21, accruing 12 points on your driving record in a consecutive 12-month period can result in a suspension of your driver's license. The same applies if you accumulate 18 points during a consecutive 24-month period.
For younger drivers, drivers license suspension often happens more quickly. Those between the ages of 18 and 21 are considered "provisional drivers" in Colorado, and license suspension can occur if you accrue 9 points in a consecutive 12 month period, 12 points in a 24-month period, or a total of 14 or more points while you are between 18 and 24 years of age, regardless of when the violation was committed.
For teenage or minor drivers (ages 16-18), suspension can occur if you accrue 6 points in a 12-month period, or 7 points before your eighteenth birthday.
You don't have to plead guilty to a moving violation charge
Don't let a conviction for a moving violation add points to your driving record or increase your auto insurance rates. Contact the offices of Michael T. Kossen, P.C., today. If you have already accrued enough points to result in a suspension of your license, we can represent you in traffic court and fight to have a probationary license issued or a reduction in the length of your license suspension.
